Chapter one:
Becoming King
“Let me die,” Nate said to his love, Jessica.
“I cannot provide for you my dear…” he continued. “Find another who can. I'm failing my classes; I just can’t understand the things they teach us. They are useless. Chemistry helps no one, math is “imaginary” and English is naptime.” Nate sighed.
“No, I love you! No matter what, you cannot leave me. I hate it here too, but but... Am I not enough to keep you here?” Jessica cried, arms wrapped tightly around Nate.
“That is a double-edged sword princess. For if I say you are not enough you are mad at me. But if I say you are then I must stay,” Nate replied with a frown.
“You’re saying that you don’t want to stay with me? There’s never anything I can do to make you happy… Why do I even try?” Jessica muttered.
“Triple-edged apparently…” Nate said under his breath. “You don’t get it do you? I'm always so happy when I’m with you,” He said truthfully. “Yesterday when you were gone, I was… I missed you…more than I can possibly say… I may act fine around everyone else, but I really did miss you…” Nate continued on. “But Jess, it’s not about my happiness, I want you to live well, not living paycheck to paycheck with me,” Nate finished with a sigh.
“I...I... I’m not going to care about anyone as much as I care about you!” Jessica cried. “I don’t want anyone but you!” Jessica said holding onto Nate’s hand tightly.
“I don’t care! You need to choose someone else. I can’t take care of you… I need you to find someone else who you can fall in love with. Someone who will always take care of you,” Nate commanded. Nate picked up Jessica and laid her down on her bed. Jessica pulled Nate on top of her.
“I love you and only you,” Jessica whispered into Nate’s ear and kissed him passionately. Her lips mingled with his; her warm lips brought Nate to life, like a spark in the dry grass. He was on fire and wanted to do everything with her. He loved her with all his heart and he knew that if he didn’t get away, he wouldn’t be able to escape his desires.
“Jess…I have to go now,” Nate said trying to escape her kisses. “Let me go, dear,” He said sternly when she wouldn’t let go of his neck. Jessica started pulling Nate down and started kissing his neck. Her tongue danced across his neck. He kissed her one last time and finally pulled away. He stroked her leg and said, “I love you. But now I must go.”
“Why cant you sta..?” Jessica was interrupted by a sudden shake and a hellish black and red glow that ominously swallowed her beloved. “What…Where did you go?! You can’t just leave me like this. And how come you didn’t use your normal blue glow to teleport?!” Jessica screamed to the air around her.
“Jess…What the hell? Where am I?” Nate said in a worried tone.
“Welcome…We think we could be of service to you…” A hooded figure said, emphasizing the word ‘Service’ in a creepy manor. Nate now stood in a dungeon-like room full of skulls.
“What the..? Who are you people…Why did you take me away from her?” Nate said frantically. “What do you need from me?” Nate asked the hooded figure who stood before many other cloaks, who Nate assumed to be demons.
“We are demons, as I’m sure you figured out. But we wish for you to be our king. We want to serve you in any ways possible.” The speaker’s voice boomed and echoed through the giant Great Hall.
“You dare summon an angel to rule over these pits of hell?” Nate exclaimed. “You are all pitiful. None of you wish to take the throne?” Nate said pointing at the red and black spiked throne that was surrounded by molten looking brimstone.
“Your father ruled over us for many years, and none of us have the royal Exilus bloodline that you do... You must take the throne. If you refuse, chaos will befall your human world and the angels will all fall to the demonic power.” One demon piped up, stepping foreword from the crowd.
“I don’t give a damn about the angels!” Nate scoffed. “My half demon blood may keep me alive through the chaos but I have renounced my demon side,” Nate continued to laugh at the idea. “One question though, May I bring humans and angels to safely reside here if I choose to take you up on this offer?” Nate inquired.
“If you do choose to rule us, you may do as you wish, but we ask that they accompany you at all times. Good does not get along well in this place,” the first speaker barked.
“I order that you all may kill any angel you wish, except for the ones that accompany me or any that I deem untouchable. You may not lay a hand on the angels Zane or Sara, as well as the human Jessica. If any harm comes to them, every demon head here will roll. They will all personally face MY wrath,” Nate threatened.
“One more thing your majesty…” the speaker trailed off.
“What is it?” Nate barked.
“Sir the coronation must take place tonight…” He paused again as if he was expecting to be hit with a fireball. “It’s a full moon.” He finished and gulped as if he was being interrogated.
“That’s really cliché,” Nate laughed. “I mean werewolves, witches; they all need the full moon. Demons aren’t any different than the common werewolf?” Nate laughed hysterically, mocking the demons. A roar of angry shouts arose from the crowd and hit Nate like a tidal wave. “God damn, I was kidding, don’t take me seriously. I like to joke. I'm not like my sociopath father,” Nate’s booming laughter could be heard by all the demons in the Great Hall.
“Sir your father was a good man, please don’t make fun of the banished,” a cloak stepped foreword, removed his hood and reached his hand to shake Nate’s hand.
“What’s your name demon?” Nate asked.
“I am called Sid; I was your father’s loyal servant for my entire life.” Sid said.
“I see... Well that’s about to change,” Nate said to Sid. “My father is never to be spoken of by any demon, unless I demand it.” Nate’s voice echoed through the halls.
“Yes sir.” Sid agreed. Nate stepped back and paused. “I will be departing to get what I require and retrieve my allies. I shall be back by sunset. Sid you are to prepare for the ceremony.” Nate ordered.
“As you desire, my lord... Do come back safely sir,” Sid said replied with a bow. Nate exited with a small flash of pale blue light. Nate sighed, “I hate meetings with demons. So damn official.” Nate remembered the harsh training his father put him through as a child. Being a demonic prince had scared Nate forever. “I hated him. I never asked to be part of the damn Exilus bloodline. All I want is to be with Jess… But I have to be king to keep the order of the world so she may live,” Nate muttered to himself. Nate would do anything for her, and now he didn’t have to worry about things as pathetic as high school classes. Nate ruled the underworld; he could provide for his beloved. Nate started thinking about what he would do if she refused to go with him; would she want just a normal life? Would he be alone in the underworld forever? “I have to take my chances; she isn’t just a normal human after all…” Nate trailed off. Jessica was an oracle, after a past life, Nate sacrificed his power to be with her. Jessica then received half of Nate’s angelic powers. She did not receive any of the demonic half however for he was able to keep them. She had been an oracle for several years but had only learned about it in her current life.
